Hill Stations

Main Hill Stations :

Kerala has a long chain of lush, mist-clad hill stations that are home to exotic wildlife. All the hill resorts offer the most enchanting experience of nature in all its virgin beauty.

Munnar Hill Station

Munnar : 1600 m above sea level, Munnar is a natural lover's paradise. It was originally developed as a plantation hill by the British settlers and later also used as a summer residence for the officers of the British Government in South India. Sprawling tea plantations, picture-book towns, winding lanes and holiday facilities make this a popular hill station. Rajamala, the natural habitat of the Nilgiri Tahr ( a rare mountain goat), and Mattupetty situated at a height of 1700 m. and is known for its highly specialised diary farm are the other tourist attractions in Munnar.

Ponmudi Hill Station

Ponmudi : Located 915 m above sea level in the southern part of the State, Ponmudi is an idyllic hill resort famous for its natural beauty and narrow winding pathways which make excellent trekking paths, tiny ribbons of cool, crisp streams and rivulets, mountain flowers and exotic butterflies never fail to enchant the visiting tourists.

Wagamon Hill Station

Wagamon : Situated around 3500 feet above sea level, Vagamon is known mainly for the beauty of its hills. The small hillocks studded with lovely pines and fast paced mountain rivulets give the place a picture post card effect. With its visual splendour and beauty, Vagamon could be called the 'Switzerland of the East'. It enjoys a tropical climate varying between 10oC - 26oC. It is also trekker's delight.

Nelliyampathy Hill Station

Nelliyampathy : Located at a distance of 52 kms from Palakkad, the cool hills of Nelliyampathy, nestling atop the Western Ghats, offer a breathtaking view of the misty mountains and enchanting valleys interspersed with sprawling tea, coffee, cardamom and orange plantations. For a vantage view of the spectacle, one must visit Seethakundu, where a 100m high waterfall provides an added attraction. This fascinating hill station is situated at a height of 467 to 1572 m above sea level and offers a panoramic view. It is also a delight of trekkers.

Vythiri : It is a quiet peaceful hill resort, located about 1300 m above sea level, close to Pookot Lake, a pristine fresh water stream. Mist capped mountains and breathtaking scenery dominate other tourist attractions. Vythiri had been a retreat for English planters during colonial times.

Pythal Mala : Situated 4500 ft. above sea level, this enchanting hill station is rich in flora and fauna. It is a 6 kms. trek to the top of the hills.
